Frequently Asked Questions
Everything people ask us about Shilajit, our products, and shopping with Kashmiveda β answered straight, no fluff.
Understanding Shilajit
What exactly is Shilajit?
Shilajit is a sticky, mineral-rich resin that seeps from rock crevices in high-altitude mountain ranges like the Himalayas, formed over centuries from the slow compression of plant matter. In Ayurveda it's classified as a Rasayana β a substance traditionally used to support strength, stamina, and overall vitality.
Why is Himalayan Shilajit considered special?
The mineral composition of Shilajit depends heavily on the region it's harvested from. Himalayan Shilajit is prized because of the altitude, rock composition, and climate it forms in, which Ayurvedic tradition associates with a richer concentration of fulvic acid and trace minerals.
What is fulvic acid, and why does it matter?
Fulvic acid is one of Shilajit's main bioactive compounds. It's known to help the body absorb minerals more efficiently and is one of the key reasons Shilajit is valued in traditional wellness practices.
What is the "Suryatapi" method, and why does Kashmiveda use it?
Suryatapi is a traditional Vedic sun-purification process. Instead of chemical extraction, raw Shilajit is purified naturally using heat and time, which we use because it preserves the resin's natural potency without shortcuts.
Is Shilajit a medicine, or a food supplement?
Kashmiveda's products are sold as Ayurvedic wellness/dietary products, not as medicines, and are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. If you're managing a medical condition, please use them alongside β not instead of β your doctor's advice.
Using Your Resin
How do I take Shilajit resin?
Take a small, rice- to pea-sized portion and dissolve it in a cup of warm water, milk, or herbal tea. Stir until fully dissolved and drink. Avoid swallowing it directly off the spoon β it dissolves far more easily in warm liquid.
How much resin should I take per day?
Most people start with a single rice-grain-sized portion (roughly 300β500mg) once a day. If you're new to Shilajit, start small and see how your body responds before increasing. Always follow the dosage guidance on your product label.
Why is my resin very thick or hard, and how do I soften it?
Pure Shilajit resin is naturally temperature-sensitive β it firms up in cold weather and softens in heat. If it's too hard to scoop, warm the closed jar in your palms for a minute or place it near (not on) a warm surface.
Is it normal for the colour or texture to vary slightly between batches?
Yes. Because our Shilajit is wild-harvested and not artificially standardised, small natural variations in colour, shine, and consistency from batch to batch are normal β and actually a sign it isn't a mass-produced, chemically uniform product.
Can I mix Shilajit resin with milk, tea, or coffee?
Warm water or warm milk are the most traditional ways to take it. You can mix it into tea as well. We'd suggest avoiding very hot or acidic beverages like black coffee, as some people find it affects the taste.
About the Gummies
How are Shilajit gummies different from the resin?
The gummies are made using the same Himalayan Shilajit, formulated into an easy, no-mixing, no-taste chewable. They're built for convenience β ideal if you travel often or simply don't enjoy the earthy taste of raw resin.
How many gummies should I take a day?
Follow the serving size printed on your pack β most people take 1β2 gummies daily. Don't exceed the recommended serving without speaking to a healthcare professional first.
Do the gummies contain added sugar?
The gummies do contain some sweetening to make them palatable, as is standard for this format. If you're managing blood sugar closely, please check the ingredient label or talk to your doctor before adding them to your routine.
Are the gummies suitable for vegetarians?
Please check the ingredient list on your product packaging for the exact gelling agent used, as this confirms vegetarian/non-vegetarian status. We're happy to confirm this for you directly over WhatsApp or email if you'd like before ordering.
About the Honey
Is your honey raw and unprocessed?
Yes β we focus on clean, naturally sourced honey without unnecessary processing, fillers, or dilution. No added sugar syrups.
How do I know the honey isn't adulterated with sugar syrup?
This is a fair question β sugar-syrup adulteration is a known issue across the Indian honey market. We're FSSAI certified, which means our honey meets the food-safety and purity standards set by India's food regulator. If you'd like to see batch-level test details, reach out and we'll share what we have.
Why has my honey turned cloudy or crystallised?
Crystallisation is a natural process for raw honey, especially in cooler weather β it's actually a good sign of minimal processing, not a defect. To liquefy it again, place the sealed bottle in a bowl of warm (not boiling) water.
Can I take the honey stick together with Shilajit?
Yes β honey is actually a traditional Ayurvedic pairing for Shilajit. Many people dissolve their Shilajit portion in warm water and stir in a honey stick for taste and an extra natural energy boost.
Is It the Real Thing?
How do I know this is genuine Shilajit and not a fake?
This is the single most common question in this category β and rightly so, since the market is full of diluted and tar-cut Shilajit. Genuine resin generally dissolves fully in warm water (no grit left behind), softens with body heat, and has an earthy, mineral smell rather than a strong tar or chemical odour. Ours is also lab-tested for purity and heavy metals before it ships.
What certifications does Kashmiveda hold?
Our products are FSSAI Certified, ISO Certified, GMP Certified, and AYUSH Certified, and manufactured in India.
Is your Shilajit tested for heavy metals?
Yes. Heavy metal contamination is a real risk with poorly sourced Shilajit, so every batch is lab-tested for purity and heavy metals before it's approved for sale.
Why is Shilajit priced so differently across brands online?
Price differences usually come down to sourcing and processing. Authentic, wild-harvested, lab-tested Shilajit costs more to produce than diluted or synthetic look-alikes cut with tar, resin, or fillers. If a price looks too good to be true for "pure Himalayan Shilajit," it's worth asking what's actually in the jar.
Why does the smell or taste vary slightly from jar to jar?
Because it's a natural, wild-harvested product and not a synthetic formulation, minor variation in smell, taste, and colour between batches is expected and is actually a marker of authenticity rather than a quality issue.
Using It Responsibly
Who should avoid taking Shilajit?
Pregnant or breastfeeding women, children, and anyone with a serious underlying health condition should avoid Shilajit unless specifically advised otherwise by a doctor, as there isn't enough clinical research to confirm safety for these groups.
Can women take Shilajit?
Yes, outside of pregnancy and breastfeeding, Shilajit is traditionally used by both men and women in Ayurveda for energy and overall vitality. If you have a specific health condition, check with your doctor first.
Is Shilajit safe to take every day, long-term?
When sourced and used responsibly at the recommended dose, Shilajit is generally well tolerated for daily use. That said, formal long-term clinical research is still limited, so we'd suggest periodic breaks and listening to your body.
Can I take Shilajit alongside my regular medication?
If you're on regular medication β especially for blood pressure, blood sugar, blood thinners, or thyroid conditions β please check with your doctor before starting Shilajit, as interaction data is limited.
What's the best time of day to take it?
Most people take it in the morning on an empty stomach for daily energy, though some prefer it before a workout. Find what fits your routine and stay consistent.
Are there any side effects?
Pure Shilajit is generally well tolerated. Taking more than the recommended dose may cause mild discomfort like dizziness or an upset stomach in some people. Impure or fake Shilajit, on the other hand, can carry real risks β another reason sourcing matters.
Can people with diabetes or blood pressure issues take Shilajit?
We'd recommend speaking with your doctor first. Shilajit may interact with conditions or medications related to blood sugar and blood pressure, and a professional can advise on what's right for your specific situation.
